So Exhausted!

Here's the latest photo of me taken in Queen's Mother Library last night.
Yea~... this semester sucks.

Jeri got his new ipad just a week ago, and I tried drawing on it (using Art Studio app).
Even my drawings are.....
...well...
....stressed

Setting that aside,
I am currently addicted to one of Jeri's ipad games.

Do you know Jubeat
It's a series of arcade music video games and it was somewhat new to me last summer when I went to Hongkong (photo below).
I don't remember seeing one in japan eventhough it was released 2 years ago.
.
So anyway,
IT IS NOW AVAILABLE ON IPAD! XD
And I've been playing with it during my whole free time :P I mean come on, they even have Studio Ghibli's song! (Totoro♫ Totoro~)

Have you ever played Jubeat? Love it?

The macaron I ordered from Macaronique (12 for 22pounds) arrived last night. ^^

The flavours are Madagascan Vanilla, Heavenly Dark Chocolate (my  fav)Rose & Lychee, Milk Chocolate & Passion Fruit, Simply Pistachio (good very good keluar janggut) and Piquant Lemon.

Aaahhh colourful macarons, you make me happy.

But it does still makes me wonder..
Why are macarons that expensive ah?

People Line Up to Pulverize the Left Brain

It's amazing - show something in a documentary and people want it quick smart. Sorry about the pun. People are having high voltage electricity pumped into the left side of their brain to make them more creative and it is excruciatingly painful.

The theory goes: pulverise the left brain until it no longer functions then the right side takes over and you can draw and paint better. That's just about it. And people are lining up in droves to try it.

It doesn't do a thing for your intelligence and damage to your brain has not been determined yet. Apparently, it not only improved your artistic faculties, you can do sums better as well. But it's creator Allan Snyder of the University of Sydney says it makes you child-like, hardly something you really want.

No, it's probably better if the left side of the brain controls the right side - better for society that is!

Memorization Is Still Useful at University

It has been said that memorizing answers is not good preparation for university. This is based on the premise that much tertiary work is research and evaluation. But what about exams? Semester examinations can contribute from 10 to 50 per cent of a subject, depending on who creates the "set up" of a course.

Lecturers set exams based upon their own knowledge. They can't help themselves. It is like an artist who paints a crowd. On close perusal of the picture you can see many instances of little artists everywhere. In other words painters tend to create images of themselves. University lecturers test students on their own knowledge - they have their own pet areas.

Students can benefit from this. They can take a recording device into lectures. Indeed, many institutions record lectures for students who miss them for unforeseen reasons. It is possible to buy devices that play back speech very fast. They have a tone control to normalize the pitch. Students can play lectures over and over again at their leisure to memorize lecturers' favorite areas of knowledge. You can virtually guarantee this will be tested for in exams.

Just about every subject has a political dimension - economics, political science, sociology, anthropology and historiography. Determine where on the political spectrum a lecturer is positioned. Write assignments that support their view. Then you will get good marks.

DK and the Team Building Course

Did you miss me?
Sorry folks, I've been sick and busy eversince the day I left Brunei.
Caught flu and didn't fully recover for my Team Building course. Yea I just came back from there, the place was Kindrogan again.
The same place where I had my Parasitology course last year (link to old post).
'DK and the Team Building Course' - doesn't sound like an interesting post to read huh. Guess it's gonna be one of those boring 'dear diary' post on the things I do as a Uni student,
so don't say I didn't warn you.
DK (Deekay) is me by the way. That's what my coursemates called me eversince 2nd year (its easier that way). They could never remember 'Pu3' (Puteri) ☹ I mean how can you forget a Poo with the number 3?

✲  ✲  ✲  ✲  ✲  ✲  ✲  ✲  ✲  ✲  ✲  ✲  ✲

Allocated into group 5 (by which we then called ourselves) the Tap Water team
I let each and everyone of them introduce themselves to you.
This 3-day course is all about teamwork.. it has nothing to do with biology!
Lol, but why is it held on the final year? Owh yea, Im a 4th year honours student now, homaigawd!

Moving on

Some of the activities we have done:
Multiperson-walk-the-plank race
(We called it Ski race lol).
And we score the 1st place for it (5min 28sec - note that for later)

 Drama play
Lol, I only took photos during preparation because I was busy laughing so hard the whole night after that, everyone did amazing on their performance! Every group had to try to make a good commercial on introducing an antidote to a disease infestation. I think we score the 2nd or 3rd place for this (and I have no idea why!).

The hardest task given was building a trebuchet (catapult) in 5 hours.

It's because there weren't any nails given!
6 planks of wood, 2 long stick (160cm each), strings, saw, driller and NO NAILS
So we have to drill a big hole on the wood plank and used the stick in replace!
Imagine the amount of effort!

Okay okay maybe its no big deal for you, but come on,
we're no engineer students.
 So it wasn't that easy.
We made it anyway. Here's our creation! Its pretty tall huh.

Being tall without a good supporting base (not enough wood!), it collapsed everytime we tried to shoot out the tennis ball. We lost in this game.

Our last competition was to design a t-shirt (in 1.5hour) that can relate to our group.
Yep it was another great evening full of excitement and laughter.
Our team got the highest score for the fashion show too
Alison fit beautifully with the shirt. ❤

We did everything we could (Do you get any of it?)
Some other bit I haven't mention:
The spider web - It was one of the successful games we did.
And to explain why my drawing looks bad -  I only had less than 10min to draw the back of the t-shirt

How the shirt looks on Gregor o_O
And what happened when I wore it.
Maigawd, the shirt was actually gigantic! Am I really that tiny??! o_O
Good thing i was wearing my shirt when I tried it out LOL.

Winner announcement in the bar.

We unexpectedly won the first place!
Prize gift was a box of wine LOL, not that I can drink, its fine.
Im just glad I had fun ^^
Wrote messages and gave the shirt to our group tutor, Heather .
Somehow I wish we could spend more days together.

Lots of love.

Memories Are Not Real

Childhood memories are figments of your imagination. If you believe that you'll believe anything. Children in the UK were asked to recall memories of things their parents said didn't happen. But how do we know if children were trying to please their parents? Most children live in a dream land anyway. So asking them to recall seeing Santa Claus is just "baiting". And asking them about flying through the air is "hypnotising" for dream recall.

If you broke your leg as child you certainly remember that, and whether the sun was out when it happened. The pain makes it stay in your mind. One thing that really remains is the care one receives from others. You remember things done with grandma because she was always kind and forgiving. Furthermore, really horrible events like being involved in a road accident and then taken to hospital remain as clear as the day they occurred.

We wouldn't have an identity without memories. We are the sum of our experiences. Taking that away from someone is condemning that person to live in the forever "now". Debate is rife about whether learning is anything of value. For example, a day after taking exams most of it is forgotten. But a university degree or any other academic test is something the individual values and society values. Whether you actually remember things taught is quite irrelevant. You have gone down that road and reached the destination. Surely, that is what life is about: having experiences, chronologically, with the past leading to the present and into the future and remembering certain milestones.

New Treatment for Coeliac Disease

Coeliac disease is widespread. It must be very difficult living your life, strictly watching what you eat. Indeed, many are not diagnosed and go through life suffering. But now there is hope. A research team at Monash university has identified problem protein fragments that cause the disease. Soon treatments will be developed that allow sufferers to consume products that contain gluten.

The research was a combined work between the Victorian Coeliac Society and the John Radcliffe hospital in the UK. Three gluten peptide fragments were observed as being the most toxic in tests, while some 90 fragment caused some reaction in sufferers.

Nexpep Pty Ltd has already developed an immunotherapy that desensitizes people to gluten. This is possible because the three "culprits" are now known.

The things I did on J-Day

Dearest readers,
tell me honestly.....
Why do you blog?
For fun? For attention? For money?

I asked this question all the time. I would say its a non profitable activity for me.
My guess would be self-satisfaction
Maybe this is a replacement for my daily diary habit I had before internet became important parts of my life.
Who knows.

Moving on
Japan Day in Robert Gordon University few days ago.
I didn't bother to wear yukata so I left mine home. But then, I was asked to wear Yoko san's yukata instead.

A bit sakai though, cause it's a real one (my yukata was just a clip-on).

Some of the day event photos

This is our (Nippon Connections) booth.
(With some of the past events posters on the wall)

What you see on our booth

Other things I did (which was not supposed to be on the list)
Drawing people..
I drew a few other people on that day out of boredom.
It makes me happy just to see how people appreciated it. ^^
Picture above was taken by Peter,
the man that gave a contribution to the whole Aberdeen friends of Japan by being the official photographer of the day. All his pictures are amazing as usual :) but I only took 1 this time.

The thing about me.
I always bring 'stuffs' (like drawing pens and sketchbook) in case there's nothing much to do.

But this time...
Guess what other things I brought along with me?

Nail colours!
Isn't it pweeettty? :)
