Japan's Behavior Is Disgraceeful
It's just disgraceful the way Japan is behaving, putting Sea Shephard leader Paul Watson on the Interpol wanted list. Japan flagrantly breaches international law yet it uses the law to manipulate the system to get what it wants - an open door to slaughter whales into extinction. The ironic thing about the whole fiasco is that the Japanese government subsidizes whale hunting, and that is what it is, not scientific research. Japanese whalers haven't made a profit for years.
Recently, whale meat was discovered on the menu in restaurants in the US. It was quickly removed. Japan blatantly admits whale meat is being sold.
Whalers also rammed and sank an anti-whaling ship without remorse. The crew wasn't even helped to safety. It looks like New Zealander Peter Bethune will be locked in gaol for two years. He was captured, not rescued, from the sunken ship.
They will do anything just to get their own way, saying it is a cultural thing is absolute rot. Fox hunting was a cultural thing in England but it was stopped.

Shen Neng 1 Was Trying to Take a Shortcut
It's time Australia used pilots to guide container ships through the Barrier Reef. At least it would stop captains trying to take a shortcut via a dangerous channel in the reef. The Shen Neng 1 was a case in point. Experienced people involved with the reef have said this is indeed what the Shen Neng 1 was doing.
It was a case of incompetence, yes, but first and foremost it was an attempt to save money. The weather was good. It was daylight and visibility was good. The captain didn't just run the ship onto the reef. He was trying to negotiate a channel.
Unfortunately, putting pilots on board ships will not stop accidents happening. Before 2000 pilots were on board ships travelling on the inner route of the Barrier Reef. A pilot was on board six of the eight groundings that occurred. The question must be asked: Why are there so many groundings in an area of the world with good prevailing weather and good visibility? Apparently, the pilots were not to blame. It is claimed that crews are inexperienced. But, the Sheng Neng 1 was way off course and a pilot would have prevented that.

Anthony Bergin Is Trying to Stop Whaling Protesters by Banning Them at Australian Ports
Anthony Bergin of the Age is completely wrong when he condemns protesters, calling for the Australian Government to ban them from Australian ports. He is not living in a fascist country where any sort of protest is stomped on smartly. He would like everyone to accept the deceitful Japanese - Yes the government of Japan is deceitful, knowingly breaking international law. Anthony Bergin likes to portray himself as the know it all which he is not. His articles have a photograph of him staring wistfully back at you with an air of comfort and righteousness. He is a researcher giving advice to those who act. Consequently, his talks can be totally ignored.
For the Australian Government to be even handed it either leaves both sides alone, which it is doing, or takes legal action against protesters and Japanese fishermen alike. Since when is protesting piracy? The dictionary definition of piracy is "an act of robbery on the high seas". Protesters are not taking anything from anyone. they are preventing the Japanese from stealing whales from the rest of us.
I do believe that continuation of the protest action is vital to keep the spotlight on the killing of whales. If people do nothing then the Japanese get the green light to carry on as usual. It can only be hoped that China invests more money than Japan with developing Islander nations to get the votes reversed at the Commission meeting in Morocco. It would be a good thing for the world if the rogue country of Japan went into economic crisis and did not have the money to invest with small nations.
