Experience stories through the digital lens Vietnamese Storyexchange a dynamic event that showcases the diverse voices and stories of the young and older generations of the Vietnamese community living in Western Sydney. Screening ten digital stories (min-films) and displaying a series of photographs accompanied by a collection of personal and cultural artefacts. The launch of Vietnamese Storyexchange will be held on Saturday 26 September, 1-3pm at Cabravale Leisure Centre (Broomfield St, Cabramatta).
Come and experience digital and visual stories as told by two generations of the Australian-Vietnamese community living in Australia. Over 30 young people and elders share their personal memories about their journey to Australia, school days, identity, family, joys and despairs, struggles and triumphs, and aspirations for the future of themselves and the community.
“Western Sydney has the largest population of Vietnamese people living in Australia and its great to be part of this project that has for the first time brought together the young and old from the Vietnamese community to share their stories – many have never been told before, says Maria Tran, Project Coordinator
Joseph Hieu Dinh, 2009 Australian-Vietnamese of the Year, says “It’s not so often that people from the Vietnamese community come together to share their memories and experiences. Vietnamese Storyexchange is the first of its kind in Australia breaking the barrier between two generations that don’t often share stories, thoughts, ideas and visions.”
Vietnamese Storyexchange is a culmination of works produced by both young people and their elders where we ran a series of workshops that explored themes of memory, culture and identity. The elders created their own visual work using a collection of photographs and writing. The young people were provided with training in introductory filmmaking, scriptwriting, editing, audio-production and storytelling producing a series of mini-films.

“Vietnamese Storyexchange” (Trao Đổi Những Câu Truyện VN”) là một triển lãm tiếng nói và những câu truyện của giới trẻ cũng như giới cao niên trong cộng đồng Việt Nam sinh sống miền Tây Sydney. Mười đoạn phim ngắn do một số bạn giới trẻ thực hiện sẽ được trình chiếu cùng với những tấm hình lịch sử đầy kỷ niệm của quý cao niên. Lễ Ra Mắt & Triển Lãm sẽ được tổ chức từ 1-3 giờ trưa, Thứ Bẩy 26 tháng 9 năm 2009 tại trung tâm Cabravale Leisure Centre (Broomfield St, Cabramatta).
Kính mời quý đồng hương tham dự để xem những câu truyện, nay biến thành triển lãm điện tử nghệ thuật của hai thế hệ người Úc gốc Việt. Hơn 30 bạn trẻ cùng với quý cao niên sẽ chia sẻ những kỷ niệm về thời ấu thơ, chuyện vượt biên tỵ nạn đến Úc, về gia cảnh, những niềm vui, lúc thất bại hay những lúc thành công, những ước muốn cho tương lai của chính họ và cho cộng đồng.
Cô Maria Tran, người đặc trách đề án nói: “Miền Tây Sydney là nơi người Việt định cư đông nhất nước Úc, và rất vui khi thực hiện một đề án đem hai thế hệ già trẻ của cộng đồng Việt Nam, cùng nhau chia sẻ những câu truyện và kỷ niệm - những điều họ chưa bao giờ được kể lại.”
Anh Joseph Hiếu Đinh, (người lãnh giải Người Úc Gốc Việt Xuất Sắc 2009 của CDNVTD) và cũng là hướng dẫn viên đề án này nói: “Rất hiếm hoi, khi thấy người Việt trong cộng đồng chúng ta có dịp ngồi xuống chia sẻ những tâm tư và những kỷ niệm. Lễ Ra Mắt và Triển lãm này chưa từng có bao giờ, vì chúng ta xoá bỏ những ngăn cách của hai thế hệ gia-trẻ, để chia sẽ những câu truyện, tâm tư, ý kiến và ước muốn cho tương lai.”
Triển lãm Vietnamese Storyexchange sẽ bao gồm những hộp hình truyện và đoạn phim ngắn của một nhóm giới trẻ và cao niên, đã được thực hiện trong một số buổi hướng dẫn (workshop). Quý cao niên tham dự đã gom lại những hình ảnh và văn thơ của mình. Các bạn thanh thiếu niên thì được hướng dẫn với những lớp dậy căn bản cách làm phim, soạn kịch bản, cắt và ráp phim, âm thanh, để thực hiện một đoạn phim ngắn cho chính mình.
